„I am extremely happy that the public in Umag will be able to see one of the 5 to 6 most exciting players in the world. Stefanos has not played in our tournament so far, but he told me that he has heard extremely positive things about the tournament“, said Tomislav Poljak, Director of the tournament. „This will take the tournament to an even higher level, and the biggest tennis fans will be able to enjoy especially the matches between two tennis players who have a fantastic one-handed backhand, because both Wawrinka and Tsitsipas are experts. If you haven't already, buy your tickets for this year's tournament, because I'm sure they will sell out quickly.“, added Poljak.

Tsitsipas has been at the top of world tennis for years. He is currently ranked 20th in the ATP singles rankings, but just yesterday he was in the top ten, and four years ago he was a splendid third. He has finished the season in the top ten for five consecutive years (from 2019 to 2023), and was a finalist in Grand Slam tournaments on two occasions: at Roland Garros in 2021 and at the Australian Open in 2023. When he won the ATP Finals ("Masters") title in 2019, at just 21 years old, he became the youngest winner of that tournament since the Australian Hewitt in 2001.

"With great pleasure we can confirm that one of today's most famous tennis players, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will be playing at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag this year. His decision to play at our tournament is the result of the positive impressions he has heard about the organization, atmosphere and hospitality that Umag offers to players and visitors. The arrival of a player of such calibre confirms the reputation of our tournament as being one of the most important sporting events in the region, but also as a destination recognized by top athletes", said Dragan Pujas, President of the Plava Laguna Management Board and President of the Tournament Organizing Committee, adding: "This year's tournament will be followed by live television broadcasts on all continents - in North and South America, Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe. This global presence provides an exceptional opportunity for additional promotion not only of Plava Laguna, but also of Istria, Croatia and Umag as desirable tourist and sports destinations."
