Umag, May 4, 2026 – Dino Prizmic is another player to confirm his participation in this year’s Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, a tournament whose organizers have consistently provided opportunities for young Croatian players to earn ATP ranking points on a big stage and test themselves against the world’s best. Wild cards into the main draw and qualifying rounds have often served as a valuable stepping stone toward gaining experience and achieving future success.
The latest name on that list is Dino Prizmic, who played his first ATP tournament in Umag and recorded his first notable result at this level at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, reaching the quarterfinals in 2023. Now, the story comes full circle. Last week, at one of the strongest events on the ATP Tour calendar, the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid, he secured his first career victory over a Top 10 player. He defeated American Ben Shelton, currently ranked No. 6 in the ATP singles rankings, as well as former world No. 6 Matteo Berrettini, once again demonstrating that he firmly belongs among the most promising players of the new generation. It is also worth noting that he competed at the ATP Next Gen Finals at the end of 2025, featuring the world’s top eight young players.
“Dino is one of the greatest talents in world tennis of his generation, and we have supported him as a tournament from the very beginning. He played his first ATP event here in 2022, reached the quarterfinals a year later, and repeated that result last season. On both occasions, he was stopped by players who went on to win the title two days later – Australia’s Alexei Popyrin and Italy’s Luciano Darderi. That is why we also feel these achievements as our own, as we believed in him at key moments of his career, and we are delighted to see him take another major step forward. Congratulations to Dino, and we look forward to seeing him again in Umag,” added tournament director Tomislav Poljak.
Today 20 years old, Dino Prizmic first connected with the Umag tournament even before beginning his journey for ATP ranking points. Back in 2016, he took part in an exhibition match featuring Goran Ivanisevic and Andre Agassi as the headline stars. “We are pleased that we will once again watch Dino compete on the courts of the Goran Ivanisevic Stadium at the Stella Maris Resort. This year as well, Plava Laguna has invested significant resources into improving the infrastructure in Umag, and we are confident that both players and visitors will enjoy their stay,” said Dragan Pujas, President of the Organizing Committee of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag and President of the Management Board of Plava Laguna.
Dino began the Madrid tournament ranked No. 87 in the ATP singles rankings and has since climbed to No. 79. By the time the new edition of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag takes place from July 13 to 19, he could arrive as a Top 50 player. Tickets are already on sale and available at shop.croatiaopen.hr.
