This year’s Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, a tournament on the professional ATP Tour calendar, will take place from July 18 to 26. Several world-class players are expected to attend, along with players with long and distinguished careers. For the first time, Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has been ranked as high as third in the ATP rankings, will come to Stella Maris. He will be joined by Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, who was once ranked sixth in the world, as well as the defending champion, Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo. In addition, Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland, a three-time Grand Slam winner, has confirmed his participation. Among Croatian players, a wild card has been awarded to the exceptionally talented Dino Prižmić.

“We are absolutely delighted that even in this challenging year, in which our tournament coincides with the ATP 500 tournament in Washington and the ATP 250 tournament in Kitzbühel, we are able to present such a strong entry list. Of course, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the biggest star, and it will be fantastic to see him in action alongside Goran Ivanišević, to whom I am especially grateful for his support in bringing Stefanos to Umag. Cerúndolo is a serious contender to become only the third player in history to successfully defend his title and win Umag more than once. Griekspoor is a player who can beat anyone, and Hurkacz, a recent Top 8 player, is returning after injury. We also have high expectations for the young Croatian players, and I am pleased to confirm that the recipient of the first wild card for the main draw is the fantastic Dino Prižmić,” said the tournament director Tomislav Poljak.

A separate retrospective presentation was held to celebrate the tournament’s 35-year history. The tournament was part of the very first ATP Tour calendar in 1990 and has been held continuously ever since. Over all these years, it has hosted numerous top-ranked players and Grand Slam champions, including nine players who, at some point in their careers, were ranked number one in the world on the ATP list. These are Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moyá, Marcelo Ríos, and Thomas Muster. Sinner, currently ranked world number one, Alcaraz, currently right behind him, played against each other in the 2022 Umag final.

Plava Laguna, one of Croatia’s leading tourism companies, has supported the tournament for many years. The event has become a recognizable part of the Plava Laguna brand and serves as a powerful promotional tool for positioning Umag and Istria as leading sports and tourist destinations.

“Thirty-five years of tennis tradition in Umag represent not only sporting continuity, but also a confirmation of the vision and dedicated work of numerous generations who have turned this tournament into the most important summer sports-tourism event in the region. As a company deeply rooted in this destination, we are proud to once again be part of a story that brings together world-class sport, unforgettable entertainment, local gastronomic experiences, and exceptional hospitality. This year, too, we will enjoy outstanding sporting performances and a rich accompanying program that will make this jubilee edition even more memorable,” said Dragan Pujas, President of the Organizing Committee.

In addition to its great sporting significance, the tournament plays a key role in enriching the tourist offer, as the program will include not only tennis but also concerts, excellent gourmet offerings, and more. In this way, the city of Umag has successfully established itself.

“For 35 years, the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag has been the hallmark of Umag as a city of sport, raising the bar every year for Umag as a center of sports, entertainment, and gastronomy. This combination has proven to be a winning formula for a successful tourist destination. From the very first ATP to today, the city of Umag has been a steadfast supporter of organizing this world-class tennis event, which continues to boost tourism and the reputation of Umag as one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Croatia,” stated Umag Mayor Vili Bassanese.

Since 1990, when the tournament was first held, as many as nine players who have been ranked number one on the ATP list have competed in Umag, which also speaks to its high quality. Television broadcasts from Umag will again be available on all continents this year.

“Croatia is most recognized for its tourism and sports, and the ATP Croatia Open Umag is an excellent example of an event that successfully connects sport, entertainment, and the promotion of Umag, Istria, and our country. For this reason, we are proud to once again support the oldest tennis tournament in Croatia, which continues to contribute significantly to the appeal of Croatia’s overall tourist offer,” stated Ivana Curić Čabraja, Executive Director at the Croatian National Tourist Board, congratulating and thanking the organizers on the impressive 35th edition of the prestigious ATP Croatia Open Umag tournament.

Infobip, a leading global IT and telecommunications company and the host of the press conference, is proudly carrying the title of technological partner of the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
