Umag, April 7, 2026 – After Italy’s Flavio Cobolli and Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had already confirmed their participation, two more names have been added to the player list: Argentina’s Tomás Etcheverry and Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz. Their arrival further raises the level of competition for the title at the 36th edition of Croatia’s only ATP tournament, while also guaranteeing another week of top-class tennis in Umag. This year’s edition is scheduled from July 13 to 18, meaning the main draw will start on Sunday and conclude with the final on Saturday.
“These are great news. We are strengthening the field and bringing in players of true world-class quality. Tomás Etcheverry returns to Umag, but as a vastly improved player compared to 2022, while Hubert Hurkacz fulfills his promise to come after having to withdraw last season due to injury. In any case, the players confirmed so far guarantee a tournament of the highest level once again, and I am confident we will make their path to the title even tougher with additional names before the start of the event,” said Plava Laguna Croatia Open Tournament Director Tomislav Poljak.
“We are extremely pleased that the list of top players set to compete on Umag’s clay courts continues to grow, further confirming the tournament’s status as one of the most attractive sporting events in the region. As Plava Laguna, we continuously invest not only in the development of the tournament, but also in the overall destination experience. This year, we have made additional investments in the Stella Maris Resort to ensure an even higher level of quality in terms of accommodation, facilities, and organization for both players and spectators,” Plava Laguna representatives emphasized.
Hurkacz reached a career-high No. 6 in the ATP rankings two years ago following a series of outstanding results. He has won two ATP Masters 1000 titles, in Miami and Shanghai, and has claimed a total of eight career titles. One of the highlights of his career came in 2021 at Wimbledon, where he reached the semifinals, defeating, among others, Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev. Over the course of his career, he has recorded 18 wins against Top 10 players. He was set to make his Umag debut last season but was forced to undergo right knee surgery. He returned in style this January at the United Cup in Sydney, helping Poland lift the trophy with four wins in five matches.
Argentina’s Etcheverry is one of the strongest clay-court players on Tour, as he has demonstrated on numerous occasions, including his recent ATP 500 title in Rio de Janeiro. It was his maiden ATP title after three previous runner-up finishes. Two years ago, he reached a career-high ranking of No. 27, and he is currently close to that mark again (No. 31), with a chance to surpass it before the start of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag. This season, he has also reached the semifinals in Buenos Aires, again on clay, while one of his standout achievements remains the quarterfinal run at Roland Garros in 2023.
Ticket sales for the 36th edition of the Umag tournament are already underway, with tickets available at shop.croatiaopen.hr
