The ITF M15 tournament, ''Road to Umag'', officially began yesterday at the Stella Maris Tennis Center. It marks the continuation of the packed ''Month of Tennis'' schedule in Umag, building toward its highlight on July 10, when the 36th edition of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open gets underway.
Once again, the player field is full of intriguing names, led by Slovakia's Andrej Martin. The former World No. 93 reached the ATP Croatia Open final in 2016, where he finished runner-up to Fabio Fognini. Martin arrives in Umag ranked No. 402 in the PIF ATP Rankings and enters the tournament as the top seed.
Also featured is fellow Slovak Jozef Kovalik, who climbed as high as World No. 80 in 2018, along with several exciting Croatian players. Among them are Emanuel Ivanisevic, son of Croatian tennis legend Goran Ivanisevic, and Jou-George Gnjidic, who received a wild card and has already advanced after defeating fellow wild card Hrvoje Jutresa in the opening round.
