This year's Umag ATP tournament began its oenological journey with tastings of young Malvasia, aged Teran, sparkling wines produced using the traditional method, Sauvignon Blanc, and aged Malvasia. The wine story concluded with the announcement of winners in five individual categories, as well as the overall ATP wine winner at the Grand Finale, held as part of the 34th Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.
In the fresh Malvasia category, the winner was the Coronica winery, while the award for aged Malvasia went to the Rossi winery. The winning sparkling wine came from the Roxanich winery, the best Sauvignon Blanc was from Vina Zigante, and in the aged Teran category, Zigante Vina took the top spot. The overall winner of this year's edition was the aged Teran from Zigante Vina, scoring nine points. The trophy was awarded to the winner by Monika Udovičić, Director of the Directorate for the System of Tourist Boards, Categorization, and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Tourism, and Vili Bassanese, Mayor of Umag.
"The hidden charms of Istrian wines have once again delighted visitors this year, highlighting the diversity and richness of Istria’s wine scene. The event was divided into five categories, with the best wines from each competing in the Grand Finale. The finale was incredibly intense, showcasing what the audience values most. In the end, the winning wine was the same as last year, with the aged Teran taking first place based on audience votes," said Emil Perdec, regional commissioner of HSK for Istria and sommelier of Plava Laguna.
