In a rollercoaster five-set battle (1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 1-6), Alexander Zverev, the world No. 3, came out on top in Paris. Despite the loss, Cobolli has every reason to be proud.
The 24-year-old from Florence has now officially entered the elite group of the world’s top 10 players on the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time in his career.
His rise has been meteoric as Cobolli broke into the top 100 only in October 2023, and this season he has reached the peak of his form. A title in Mexico, combined with his maiden Grand Slam final appearance, has propelled him into tennis’ very elite.
The achievement further underlines the remarkable rise of Italian tennis. Until 2019, Italy had only two players ever reach the top 10, while since then five have joined the group - Fabio Fognini, Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, and now Cobolli. All of them, with the exception of Berrettini, have already competed in Umag.
Fans will once again enjoy top-class Italian tennis this summer, with Cobolli leading the field as the first confirmed player for the 2026 edition of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open.
