Cobolli continues his rise: Acapulco title and career-high ranking

Flavio Cobolli, the Italian player we will once again see this summer at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag, claimed the ATP 500 title in Acapulco after defeating American Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 6-4 in the final. The victory marks his first title on hard courts and the third ATP trophy of his career, while a string of impressive results in recent weeks has also lifted him to a new career-high – No. 15 in the ATP rankings.

The past few weeks have very much belonged to Flavio Cobolli. The Italian has been in excellent form, something he had already shown at the ATP tournament in Delray Beach, where he reached the semi-finals and hinted at what would follow in the next week.

He confirmed that form in Mexico, where he captured the ATP 500 title in Acapulco – his first career title on hard courts and the third overall. In the final he defeated American Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 6-4.

Thanks to his title in Acapulco and a series of strong results in recent weeks, the Italian has also achieved the best ranking of his career – on Monday he will rise to World No. 15 in the official PIF ATP Rankings.

“I think I deserve it for how I work outside the court,” Cobolli said after the final. “After the losses, I go back to the court and keep working. I just want to say that I’m very proud of myself. It was a great match today, I think it was the best of the tournament for me. I had never beaten Frances before today, so I’m very happy.” The Acapulco final marked the third meeting between Cobolli and Tiafoe.

Career form as a prelude to Stella Maris
Flavio Cobolli will return to Umag this summer for his fifth appearance at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open, arriving in Stella Maris as one of the standout names in this year’s draw.

Cobolli has been attracting attention not only with his results, but also with his dynamic, emotional style of play, while in recent weeks he has also drawn plenty of interest off the court thanks to a new tattoo that has sparked considerable buzz among fans and on social media.
