Flavio Cobolli, the world No. 13 – a career-high ranking – continues to prove he is playing the tennis of his life.The player proudly announced by the Umag tournament as the first confirmed name for the 2026 edition secured another ATP 500 final last week – this time in Munich – his second of the season after lifting the Mexican Open title in Acapulco in February.
The Italian was particularly impressive in the semifinals, where he dismantled home favourite and world No. 3 Alexander Zverev 6–3, 6–3. However, he appeared to run out of fuel in the final, falling 6–2, 7–5 to world No. 6 Ben Shelton.
SENSATIONAL ARTHUR FILS
Young Frenchman Arthur Fils is also continuing his outstanding form. The 21-year-old, who struggled with injuries last season, has returned in style this year.
He claimed his first title of the season in Barcelona, defeating former Umag champion Andrey Rublev 6–2, 7–6 (7–2) in the final. It was the fourth title of his career and his first since the Japan Open in 2024.
It is worth noting that Fils has been working since the start of the season with Croatian tennis legend Goran Ivanišević, ambassador of the ATP Plava Laguna Croatia Open.
MADRID MASTERS UNDERWAY
The second clay-court Masters event of the season has begun at Madrid’s Caja Mágica.There was excellent news for Croatian tennis in the opening round.
Dino Prižmić produced an inspired performance to defeat Italy’s Matteo Berrettini 6–3, 6–4 and continue his strong rise. This is the season in which Prižmić recorded his first Masters-level win, and the current world No. 87 has also broken into the ATP Top 100 for the first time. His next opponent will be Ben Shelton, with their match scheduled for Friday, April 24, at 12:30.
Marin Čilić also recorded a first-round win, defeating Belgium’s Zizou Bergs(44.) 4–6, 6–3, 6–4. Čilić returns to action on Friday, when he will face world No. 31 João Fonseca of Brazil.
All players already confirmed for the 2026 Umag tournament will also be in action in the second round, nd we will be following their performances with great interest.
