ATP Tour Official Tournament

Holger Rune, the sixth player from the current ATP ranking list, will play again in Umag!

One of the best players in the world will further strengthen the already very attractive lineup of this year's Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag tournament.

Before him, our Marin Čilić, Swiss Stan Wawrinka, and Austrian Dominic Thiem, respectively winners of individual titles at Grand Slam tournaments, confirmed their arrival at Stella Maris.

Just this week, Rune reached the best ranking of his career on the individual ATP list, just after playing in the final of the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, where he defeated, among others, Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud. Earlier this year, Rune also played in the finals of the tournament in Monte Carlo, and a little later he won the title in Munich.

The Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag will take place from July 21 to 30, marking the 33rd edition of the oldest ATP tournament in Croatia.

"Rune has played in Umag twice before. The first time was two years ago when he entered the main draw thanks to a wildcard (he was ranked 204th on the ATP list at the time), and the second time was last season. He is still without a win, as he lost in the first round both times in three-set matches. We believe that the third time will be the charm for him in Umag and that, with the support of the Umag crowd, he will achieve his first victory. Plava Laguna has once again invested a lot into the tournament to ensure it reaches the highest possible level in terms of sports, entertainment, and gourmet experiences. I invite all guests to come to Umag and be part of this story," said Dragan Pujas, President of the Management Board of Plava Laguna and President of the Organizing Committee of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.

"After having three Grand Slam champions participate in the tournament, we are pleased to announce the participation of a player who has every reason to believe he will become one himself in the near future. Holger Rune is returning to Umag for the third consecutive year after receiving a wildcard for the main draw in 2021 when he was still outside the Top 200. Today, he is a Top 10 player, a Masters 1000 champion, and one of the biggest young stars on the Tour. Along with his outstanding results, he has a strong, somewhat fiery character that makes him always exciting to watch," said Tomislav Poljak, the tournament director.

This week, the 20-year-old Dane is enjoying the highest ranking of his career, currently sitting at No. 6 on the ATP list after securing several top-tier results this year. He played in two Masters 1000 finals, in Rome and Monte Carlo, reaching the final by defeating top-ranked players along the way. In Rome, he overcame Serbian Novak Djokovic and Norwegian Casper Ruud, while in Monte Carlo, he defeated Russian Andrey Medvedev and Italian Jannik Sinner. He lost the final to Andrey Rublev, the 2017 Umag champion. So far, Rune has won four ATP titles, the biggest being his Masters 1000 triumph in Paris in early November last year.
