Umag, February 6th – The Plava Laguna Croatia Open will celebrate its 36th edition this year, and already six months ahead of the tournament, one of the world’s leading players has confirmed his participation. Flavio Cobolli, a member of Italy’s golden new generation of tennis stars, will return to Stella Maris, providing an exciting early announcement for the tournament, which will take place from 10 to 19 July.

“We’ve made an excellent start to preparations for the new edition of the tournament by securing a player who enjoyed an outstanding season last year and broke into the world’s Top 20. He won two ATP titles, reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals, and crowned the year by leading Italy to a third consecutive Davis Cup title as the nation’s No. 1 player,” said Tournament Director Tomislav Poljak.

Cobolli is currently ranked No. 20 in the ATP singles rankings, with a career-high ranking of No. 17 achieved in July last year. In 2024, he claimed titles in Bucharest and Hamburg, while his best Grand Slam result to date is reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals last season. This will be his fifth appearance at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open, with his best results in Umag being round-of-16 finishes in 2023 and 2024.

“The ATP tournament in Umag and Plava Laguna have shared a strong and special connection with Italy for decades. Italian guests have traditionally been among our most loyal visitors, and Istria and Umag have long been a favourite destination where sport and leisure blend naturally for them. The clearest confirmation of this bond was Jannik Sinner’s victory in 2022, which remains one of the most memorable moments in the tournament’s history. That is why we are especially pleased to once again welcome Italian players and fans and continue to build this sporting and friendly connection that makes Umag a unique stop on the ATP Tour,” emphasised Dragan Pujas, President of the Organising Committee of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag and President of the Management Board of Plava Laguna.

So far, four Italian players have lifted the trophy in Umag, the most recent being Luciano Darderi, who defeated Spain’s Carlos Taberner 6–3, 6–3 in last season’s final. Previous Italian champions in Umag include Fabio Fognini (2016), Marco Cecchinato (2018) and Jannik Sinner (2022).

Ticket sales for the 36th edition of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open have already begun. Unlike the previous two seasons, this year’s singles final will be played on Sunday. The main draw starts on Monday, 13 July, and tickets are available at https://shop.croatiaopen.hr/
