During his interview for Croatian Radiotelevision, the best tennis player in the world Novak Đoković, spoke about the beginning of his tennis career, where the ATP tournament Croatia Open Umag played an important role.

"The tournament in Umag has a special spot in my career and I always enjoyed playing there. Unfortunately, due to the tournament schedule I'm unable to play at the moment, but I will definitely come back before I end my career. I have a special feeling when I play in Umag", said Đoković in his interview with Bruno Kovačić during the Davis Cup match between Serbia and Croatia in Kraljevo.

He remembered his way to the top of world tennis and said that it was quite difficult, perhaps more difficult than his peers from more developed countries, due to wars and economic crises, but that helped him become tough. He emphasized the role of Nikola Pilić as his tennis father, who accepted him into his Munich academy when he was 12, which gave him the opportunity to train in the same place as some of the great champions like Goran Ivanišević and Boris Becker.
