Qualifications for the Franck regional barista competition took place today at the Social Arena. The top two baristas will participate in the final regional competition, which will be held this fall in Zagreb. The best duo in today’s tough competition were Boris Nevrly from Pula (Caffe Bar Dvojka) and Milan Penić from the island of Krk (Lantino Restaurant).
The two-phase qualification competition tested the ability of the competitors to prepare four identical espresso-based beverages in just five minutes. The best then went on to the deciding round, where they had three minutes to prepare a technically perfect cup of cappuccino using the Latte Art technique. In judging the competitors, the jury was guided by the rules of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), an international umbrella organization of professionals in the coffee industry.
