The 22nd edition of Croatia's oldest and most prestigious tennis
tournament ATP Studena Croatia Open Umag attracted the
record-breaking 80,000 visitors, together with 300 accredited
journalists, photographers and cameramen from Croatia and the
world. Last year's tournament took place in the period between July
21 and July 31, under the auspices of the Croatian President Ivo
Josipović. The winner of the final match against the home favorite
Marin Čilić was the up-and-coming Ukrainian Alexandr
Dolgopolov, who thus won his first ATP World Tour title.
That was also "the youngest" final in any of the ATP tournaments in
2011 as both players were just 22 years old.
Over the eleven days of the tournament all 80,000
visitors enjoyed top-class tennis but also 60
hours of music program in 14 different concerts by both
Croatian and international stars, including opera diva Montserrat
Caballé, DJ star Yolanda Be Cool, TBF, Jinx, Lana Jurčević, Neno
Belan, etc. The ATP tournament also hosted a gastronomy and enology
event Istria Gourmet Festival, featuring 15
top-quality Croatian and international restaurants, two of them
awarded Michelin stars.
Images of one of the most beautiful tennis courts in the world,
fantastic sports atmosphere and outstanding entertainment program
have circled the globe. The matches were broadcasted in as many as
132 countries on four different continents, thus potentially
reaching 90,050,000 viewers via 15 international TV stations.
Moreover, 24 international TV stations, including Eurosport 2, BBC
World News, Al Jezzerea Sports Global, France 24 and Russia Today
aired 613 reports and news segments featuring the tournament,
reaching over 700 million potential viewers around the world.
Online promotion posted excellent results as well. Thus, the
tournament's official website had 150,000 visitors and the Facebook page boasted 900,000 views. "The said
results are making us exceedingly happy and proud as they are the
product of months of hard work and effort of almost 400 people
involved in the event's organization. At the same time, they also
make us set high goals for the 23rd edition of the tournament,
preparations for which have already begun. All the accomplishments
are extremely important for the development of tennis in Croatia,
as well as the country's tourist offer and promotion of Umag,
Istria and Croatia around the world," ATP Studena Croatia Open
director Vanja Božičković explained.
The 23rd Vegeta Croatia Open will take place in
the period between
July 5 and July 15, 2012, during which time Umag will
once again become the unavoidable summer stop boasting top-quality
tennis, beauty, entertainment and parties as well as tastes and
smells of Istria.
