The preparations for the 23rd edition of the ATP Vegeta Croatia
Open are in full swing. This year, the oldest and most prestigious
Croatian tennis tournament will take place earlier than usual, in
the period between July 5 and July 15.
23rd edition of the tournament will bring numerous novelties. Umag
will once again draw top-quality tennis players from around the
world, accompanyied by attractive gastronomic, cultural and
entertainment program. The ATP Vegeta Croatia Open will once again
present Umag, Istria and Croatia in the best possible light.
Last year the Umag-based tournament attracted the record-breaking
80,000 visitors and 300 accredited journalists,
photographers and cameramen from Croatia and the world. The
tournament was held under the auspices of the President of the
Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipović, while the Ukrainian
Alexandr Dolgopolov became the tournament's
laureate following an exciting final against Croatia's Marin Čilić,
thus claiming his first career title. It was also "the youngest"
final at any ATP tournament in 2011 seeing as both players were
just 22 at the time.
Over the 11-day tournament, the said 80,000 visitors had enjoyed
not only top-quality tennis but also 60 hours of music program at
14 different concerts by international and domestic stars,
including opera diva Montserrat Caballé, DJ sensation Yolanda Be
Cool, TBF, Jinx, Lana Jurčević, Neno Belan… Finally, as part of the
tournament a gastronomic and enological event Istria Gourmet
Festival had taken place. The event featured 15 of the finest
Croatian and international restaurants, two of which boast the
prestigious Michelin stars.
