Despite fierce competition from a number of great players, all
specialists in clay, the best Croatian tennis player Ivan
Ljubičić announced that in the 22nd ATP Studena Croatia
Open tournament he is only interested in victory. "This
will be my twelfth time in Umag and since I went through all of the
bad and good games the only thing left is the experience of the
final match and possibly victory," said Ljubičić.
Umag is a tournament traditionally attended by a lot of quality
players. Because of the atmosphere and experience Ljubičić believes
that this is one of the most beautiful ATP tournaments, especially
for evening matches. "Everybody enjoys coming in Umag and they are
quick to return. All the players praise Umag because of the
atmosphere, ambience and relaxation that the tournament offers more
than any other, "confirms Ljubičić. Among the favorites in Umag
Ljubicic included specialists in clay Robredo,
Ferrero, Chela and
Fognini. Dolgopolov,
Seppi and last year's finalists
Starace are also not excluded nor forgotten.
Beseides all mentioned among the favorites are of course three best
Croatian players, Ivan Ljubičić, Marin Čilić and
Ivan Dodig as well as Antonio
Veić through invitations."We will fight as much as we can
and hope that one Croat will finally in Umag get to the end after a
long time" said Ljubičić.
As of last week, Croatia's top ranked player
Ljubičić, has no points to defend in the following two to
three months. Therefore, he believes that he could fight his way
into the top twenty from his current 31st. spot, since he has about
ten more tournaments to go until the end of the season.
He considers the shift of power at the top of world tennis
justified, since, as he says, there is no doubt that Novak Đoković
is currently the best player in the world. It's also interesting,
he added, that Federer doesn't match up well against Nadal, Nadal
doesn't match up well against Đoković, while Đoković doesn't like
playing against Federer, therefore a magical triangle has formed in
tennis. The three of them are far ahead of everyone, but Ljubičić
that other players, including him, will be able to win some
tournaments before the season is over.
ATP Studena Croatia Open is being held for the 22nd time
from 21st until 31st July. Umag's tournament is reputed to
be one of the most interesting professional male tournaments in the
ATP World Tour 250 class. That reputation is confirmed by the
("Award of Excellence"), that has been imparted to Umag's
tournament several times. The unique combination of tennis, music
and gourmet at ATP Studena Croatia Open traditionally attracts over
70.000 guests, which makes Umag an unavoidable summer center for
tennis, beauty, entertainment and socializing, as well as enjoyment
of Istrian tastes and smells. The arrival of world's tennis elite
has an exceptional importance for the development of tennis in
Croatia, as well as Croatia's tourist offering and promotion of
Umag, Istria and Croatia in the world. The TV broadcast of the 2010
tournament went into 37 countries of Central and South America,
Europe and Asia, which took over 130 hours of national and
international TV broadcast.
