Goffin will thus be leading the group of players featuring Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini, Gilles Simon, Borna Ćorić, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Benoit Paire and many others already on the acceptance list.

“I would like to thank the tournament director Lawrence Frankopan and the team in Umag for giving me the chance to play in Croatia for the first time in my professional career. I heard many great things about the event in Umag and I am looking forward to experiencing it in July,” said the 26-year old Belgian.

Goffin is one of the most exciting and consistent players on the ATP World Tour. The winner of two ATP World Tour titles equaled his best Grand Slam result at the Australian Open with his quarterfinal run. Several weeks later he broke the Top 10 and became the first Belgian with this amazing achievement. Due to his unfortunate injury at the Roland Garros, he was forced to retire in the third round, but is now looking forward to make up for some lost ground in Umag.

“It is fantastic news for our event to have someone like David. I've known him for many years and we've always had a fantastic relationship. He is an extremely talented player, loved by all the tennis world for the ease with which he plays, but also for his unparalleled sportsmanship. He is the cherry on top of what will be a spectacular tournament in Umag this year,” said the tournament director Lawrence Frankopan.

Goran Ivanišević, great friend of the tournament in Umag, is thrilled with this year’s list of players.

“This year, the tournament in Umag has an unbelievable width that guarantees great tennis on all seven days of the tournament. Goffin is one of the most exciting players on the tour. With him, Monfils, Fognini, Ćorić and all the other players, the spectators are in for one of the best tournaments in the past ten years,” Goran Ivanišević concluded.

Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag will be held in the week after Wimbledon, with the main draw starting on July 17. The tickets are already available, and you are just a few clicks away from attending the tournament.
