“We are happy that together with the Marin Čilić Foundation we have enabled young tennis players from Vukovar to join us at the anniversary edition of the tournament, where they will get to meet their tennis idols. We are confident they will have lasting memories and gain plenty of useful experience from their time in Umag,” said Lawrence Frankopan, director of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.
Vukovar ball boys will be gathering tennis balls in Umag as of Sunday, July 14, when the competition portion of the tournament at Stella Maris will kick off with first-round qualifiers.
“We are very pleased that, together with Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag and Marin Čilić Foundation, with whom we have successfully cooperated on organizing our camp, we have managed to provide the children of Vukovar with such a unique experience. This is going to be a fantastic experience for them and they will, I am sure, learn plenty from it,” added Dino Ilečić, organizer of the Vukovar Tennis Camp and native to Vukovar with a Swedish address.
Apart from being a part of the team of ball boys and ball girls, these young Vukovar natives will be able to meet some of their tennis idols during the Kids’ Week. By actively participating in the tournament and hanging out with their peers from Istria, the children from Vukovar will spend a week filled with sporting excitements.
“Last year, while working on the Vukovar Tennis Camp project, we had the pleasure of meeting Vukovar’s tennis enthusiasts and we are really happy that this year, with the help from the tennis camp, we have the chance to support this excellent initiative. Spending time with children from other parts of Croatia and enjoying a first-class international sporting event such as ATP Umag will have a positive impact on the development of these great children,” concluded Nevena Mrkonjić, head of the Marin Čilić Foundation.
The 30th Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag will kick off with an exhibition match on Saturday, July 13, when the Goran Ivanišević ATP Stadium will host a replay of the first ever final in Umag between Goran Prpić and Goran Ivanišević. After the exhibition, the visitors will be able to enjoy a concert by Tony Cetinski, who will be providing them with the best possible introduction to a week filled with top-quality tennis, fantastic gastronomy and best parties.
