“The old records say they used to make table wine from teran; however, since we have made truly top-quality wines out of it, I believe it is time we write some new books,” Moreno Coronica added. The wine tasting participants then took part in a quiz about everything that had been said, and the winners got a valuable prize – a bottle of teran.
In the end, the highest score was awarded to the Kappi aged teran made by the Cattunar Winery, which means the wine has entered the final of the 2019 ATP Wine of the Year competition, which will take place this Sunday. The next wine tasting event is scheduled for today at 9 PM and will feature merlots.
On their second evening, this year’s edition of the Hidden Charms of the Istrian Wines wine tasting events, featured aged terans by the Zigante, Cattunar and Coronica wineries.
While the visitors blind-tasted the wines, the experienced sommelier Emil Perdec told them about the specific characteristics of this old Istrian variety. “Teran goes really well with game and other similar, strong dishes,” Perdec explained, and the visitors agreed it could easily be paired with a steak or fish dishes in combination with a spicy red sauce, such as, for instance, polenta with calamari.
