“Stan is one of the rare few who have managed to threaten the ‘big three’ – Đoković, Nadal, and Federer – in their prime. Fans absolutely adore him because of his unique playing style, especially his special one-handed backhand.” says Tomislav Poljak, director of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag tournament.
“Another Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag tournament is coming. Plava Laguna has spent the entire year preparing a tournament, which will once again be amazing, in terms of both sports and entertainment. The first player whose participation in this year’s tournament we are announcing has won 16 titles and played in the finals 14 more times, so we are certain he will draw a crowd to Stella Maris. We are inviting tennis fans to join us at the Goran Ivanišević court on 24 July and to be a part of another story from Umag,” says Dragan Pujas, President of the Management Board at Plava Laguna, the tourism company organizing the Umag ATP tournament.
After he won the Australian Open in 2014, Wawrinka reached third place of the ATP singles rankings, and he remained one of the best tennis players in the world for years. He has won 16 titles and played in 14 more finals matches, including the Roland Garros in 2017, two years after he won the title at the very same place. Since 2006 until today, Wawrinka is the only other player to have won the Australian Open outside the Đoković-Federer-Nadal trio.
He was forced to take a long break due to a surgery on his heel two years ago, but he has already had several excellent results since his return. Last year he won against the world’s fourth best tennis player at the time, Russian Daniil Medvedev, in Metz, and a little less than a month ago he beat Norway’s Holger Rune, ranked 8th on ATP’s rankings.

This year’s Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag is sure to provide excellent tennis matches, and if you want to be there to see the Stella Maris tennis spectacle, you need to reserve your spot and purchase your tickets at the official webshop. Tickets for the central court (ATP court Goran Ivanišević) are available online, while the Grandstand tickets will be available at the ATP shop. The daily tickets enable spectators to see all matches that are being played at that court on that day.
