This Monday, Italy’s Fabio Fognini, the first seed at this year’s Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, once again improved his career-high ATP singles rankings. After Wimbledon, Fognini moved up from the tenth to the ninth position, which means that he will arrive in Umag, where he lifted the trophy in 2016, ranked ninth in the world.
“Of course I’m happy. I hadn’t played well during the first three months of this year, and then, at the first major tournament in Europe, I came close to winning it. I did it in Monte Carlo and that’s when my expectations and goals changed. Now, I’m ranked ninth in the world; however, at the same time, I know that I have a difficult second part of the season before me. It is going to be a tough challenge as, right now, the difference between the eighth and the fifteenth player in the world is minor,” said Fognini at the press conference.
