Since the first ATP tournament was held in Umag in 1990, all the best Italian tennis players have played at Stella Maris, but this year will be truly special. The current Davis Cup champions – Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi and Lorenzo Sonego – are coming to the Plava Laguna Croatia Open!

“This year’s tournament is scheduled to take place from 19 to 27 July, and it will be the 34th edition of the oldest ATP tournament in Croatia. The world No. 6, Russian Andrey Rublev, a player with one of the most attractive playing styles in the game today, has already confirmed his participation, and along with the three excellent Italian players, the competition in Umag is getting even tougher.” emphasized Dragan Pujas, the president of the Tournament Organizing Committee, who is also the president of the Management Board of Plava Laguna.

“So looking forward to coming back to UMAG. One of my favorite tournaments of the year especially with it being so close to italy and having so many Italians to cheer me on.” Musseti is currently 23rd on the ATP rankings.

In recent seasons, Italian tennis has experienced a true renaissance. Not only because of Jannik Sinner, who beat the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the now legendary Umag 2022 final, and not only because of winning the Davis Cup title last year, but also because of the fact that currently as many as eight players are among the top 100 on the ATP singles rankings. Only the Americans and the French are more successful than them in that regard, while among players under the age of 23, they hold a convincing lead with 5 players in the top 100, which guarantees that we will continue to see excellent tennis with an Italian signature in Umag in the coming years.

"I am glad to be back in Umag. It is a tournament where I feel great - on and off the court. Atmosphere is amazing, with a lot of fans from different countries, among many of them are Italian, I really enjoyed the support from the stands” said last year semifinalist, Matteo Arnaldi (38. on the ATP rankings)

Apart from Arnaldi, there was another Italian among last year’s semi-finalists – Lorenzo Sonego (60), who will also be coming to Umag for the second time. He lost to the Swiss Stan Wawrinka.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the tournament in Umag, so last year I decided to check if the rumors were true. Now I'm back which means that my expectations were met. Last year’s tournament was successful for me, and I will do my best to make this one even more successful” said Sonego.

Compared to previous seasons, the schedule of matches will be significantly changed, because the tennis competition at the Olympic Games in Paris will begin immediately after the Umag tournament. Thus, the main tournament will start already on Sunday, 21 July, the semi-finals are scheduled for Friday (26 July), and the final on Saturday (27 July).
