- The tournament has been held for some time now, its rich tradition has made it one of the synonyms of Croatia, Istria, and Umag, both in terms of sports and tourism. Over the years, the tournament has grown and become a leader in changing trends and an example for other tournaments. For us, Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag is much more than a tennis tournament - it is an event built on its own strong history, community values, tradition, and the Croatian identity. These are some of the values that Plava Laguna follows, so we are glad that Goran is with us, as one of the symbols of Croatian sports. As the tournament of this year will promote again Istria and Umag as tourist destinations, we are very pleased to have been able to provide television broadcasting in five continents, or in more than 120 countries - said Arlen Brozić and announced that in the sports section of the upcoming tournament they had decided to focus on young hopes, on players who have extremely successful careers ahead of them.

Umag is one of the leading world tournaments recognizing young talents who will certainly allow us to enjoy top tennis for years to come

Among them are certainly Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz, the duo that marked the current tennis year, when it comes to new names. Experts compare them to some of the greatest players in the history of tennis in terms of potential.

- Along with Jannik Sinner, who played in Umag in 2019 and whose return we hope to see in the near future, the two of them are the only teenagers in the ATP Top 100, and they play offensive, uncompromising and attractive tennis. Italian Musetti has already beaten players such as Wawrinka, Nishikori, Schwartzman, Dimitrov, Auger-Aliassime, Goffin, and others, while Spaniard Alcaraz is one of the only five tennis players in history to win three Challenger titles before turning 18 and is the fifth-youngest player since 2000 to enter the Top 100 after Nadal, Gasquet, Ćorić and Del Potro. I am delighted that the two of them are coming to Umag, especially after they showed such good tennis at Roland Garros. Alcaraz won a total of five qualifying matches and two rounds of the main tournament, and yesterday Musetti was leading 2-0 in sets against Đoković in the round of 16 and gave him a hard time - said the Tournament Director Tomislav Poljak.

In addition to the main ATP tournament, Umag will host numerous accompanying tournaments such as the new Road to Umag, the traditional VIP tournament, Umag Stars Open, and the second ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour

Although due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's tournament will be held in new circumstances, Umag brings many novelties just the same. One of them is a series of qualifying tournaments Road to Umag.

- Road to Umag is the name for a series of three, so-called, pre-qualifying tournaments, which start this week in Karlovac. After that, the tournaments in Požega (17-19 June) and Split (25-27 June) will ensue. The event will reach its peak with the Road to Umag Masters, taking place two days before the start of Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag. The final winner of the series, which is intended exclusively for Croatian players, will receive an invitation to qualify for our ATP tournament. With this, we want to give an opportunity to all Croatian tennis players to take part in the tournament and try to fight for their position among the tennis elite, but also to use these tournaments to play a large number of quality matches - Tomislav Poljak added.

The legendary Goran Ivanišević, a great friend of the Umag tournament, also expressed his satisfaction with participating in the new edition of the tournament.

- I am glad that, after a year-long break, we are back together in Umag. As for the young tennis players coming to the tournament, they are the future of tennis. Umag is one of the leading tournaments in the world that recognizes young talents and in the coming years, thanks to them, we will surely enjoy top tennis. Umag was the springboard for Đoković, Nadal, even myself. It will be interesting as always, a lot of surprises, a lot of good tennis and I hope that the audience will be able to come and watch if the epidemiological situation allows - said Ivanišević.

Again this year, Umag will be the tennis center, hosting almost 500 recreational players in accompanying tournaments, in addition to the players in the main tournament.
