The third invitation goes to 18-year-old Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune. The young Dane is one of the best teenagers on the ATP Tour, who in the past ten months has advanced from 821st place to reaching the threshold of the 200 world best players. Rune is by far the most successful player in his generation,along with six days younger Carlos Alcaraz, whom we will also see in Umag. Rune comes as a form of replacement for Lorenzo Musetti, another fantastic teenager, who received a last minute invitation from the national team at the and decided to play in the Olympics.
“We’re sorry about Lorenzo’s cancellation, but we acted in the best way possible and arranged a long term cooperation with another great rising talent. Holger is constantly successful on the Challenger Tour, and he showed that he can play very well on the clay court even at the ATP level, which is extremely impressive for his age and we believe that we will benefit greatly from this invitation in the future. Nino got the winning streak at the tournament in Perugia this week and we hope that he will continue to do so in Umag. The third domestic candidate for the invitation, Borna Gojo, decided on a different schedule and tournaments on a hard surface and honestly thanked us for the ‘wild card’ we offered” - said the tournament director Tomislav Poljak.
Plava Laguna Croatia Open will be held from 16th to 25th of July, and the main part of the tournament starts on July 19. The tournament will be open to the public, who will be able to attend the matches in limited numbers. A maximum of 5,000 people will be able to enter the ATP zone during the tournament, exclusively with a digital green COVID certificate which can be obtained at the test site in the ATP zone, as the testing will be performed by a laboratory authorized to issue EU Digital COVID Certificates.
