Borna Čorić bested the 12 years older Argentinean
Horacio Zeballos in two sets and made his way into the
quarterfinals of Umag's ATP. It's only his second ATP
victory in his senior career and the second one in Umag. He says
that he still isn't aware of what happened, so happiness will have
to wait. In fact, Ćorić lost to Zeballos last year in Umag. "I
was younger and less experienced last year, I even think that
Zeballos let me have a few points that time. This year he knew that
I have matured and that I played an excellent match two days
before."
Even though he's just 17 years old, he played with a lot of
confidence. "I had the feeling that he can't take my serve and
that I would really have to mess up for that to happen. I didn't
panic very much." Even though it was raining before the match,
which made the playing conditions more difficult, Borna served very
well and got several important points there. "I played really well,
even though it wasn't phenomenal, but when it was necessary I took
the initiative and it paid off every time."
After the match he was swarmed by fans and he signed a lot of
autographs. He carries his newfound glory well, because he believes
it is a part of the job. "If you can't get used to it, then you
shouldn't be doing this in the first place", said Borna. He faces
the first seed Fabio Fognini in the quarterfinals. "It could be
extremely difficult to play against Fognini if he plays well, but
he is known to have some bad days. Perhaps that will happen
today", hopes Borna Ćorić
