After the first two main draw wild cards for the 27th Konzum Croatia Open Umag had gone to Croatian players, tournament director Lawrence Frankopan kept his promise and gave the third wild card to a Croatian player as well. The chance to prove himself alongside the 28 top players has thus been given to the 19-year-old Nino Serdarušić, Croatia's tennis hopeful and, after Borna Ćorić, the best ranked U20 Croatian.

Nino Serdarušić began playing tennis as a young boy at Umag's Stella Maris, and now he will be making his debut in Umag, at a tournament of this category and in front of the local fans. The former no. 21 in ITF Juniors rankings, who participated in all four junior Grand Slams in 2014, is now trying to make it on the professional circuit. He is currently ranked 572 in the world on the ATP Singles rankings and 310 on the ATP Doubles rankings. Ahead of him in the rankings, there are just 15-odd younger players, which is a testament to his potential.

"I am very happy that I have been given the opportunity to feel what it means to play at the ATP level. I have grown up alongside the tournament in Umag and I hope I will live up to the expectations. Two years ago I entered the singles qualifications as well as the doubles main draw, but this is going to be a completely new experience for me. I would like to thank the tournament director and Istraturist for recognizing my efforts and results," Serdarušić said.

"Alongside Borna, Nino is the young man who should be carrying the Croatian men's tennis over the next ten or more years. Hopefully, this wild card will help him on his way to the top of men's tennis. He has earned it with his dedication and hard work as well as increasingly better results on the Futures level," tournament director Lawrence Frankopan stressed.

With the already confirmed Franko Škugor and Nikola Mektić, Serdarušić is going to be the third Croat playing in the main draw of this year's Konzum Croatia Open Umag. The two qualifications wild cards will also be given to the Croatian players, and the homegrown players will also get the two doubles main draw wild cards. Thanks to their solid ATP rankings, another Croatian duo, namely Nikola Mektić and Antonio Šančić, will also be playing in the doubles main draw.
