International presented their donor project "Solidarity
Day" at the ATP Vegeta Croatia Open Celebrity stage, whose goal is
to aid Umag's citizens who need it the most. During the 2012
season, funds for the two year old Matea Damiani and 22 year old
Jasmin Vlahović will be gathered.
It is a continuation of the project which has been successfully
carried out in 2011, when the gathered funds were invested into the
purchase of a specialized computer for the blind as well school
equipment for the 15 year old girl Melissa Končar, and to fund a
teaching assistant for Anamarija Manin, and 8 year old girl with
cerebral palsy.
"The ATP tournament in Umag always has a strong humanitarian
drive. During the last two years we have carried out the action
Umag's stars for Umag's children, used to gather funds for children
with special needs. The action is always aided by tennis players at
the tournament, as well as music stars and members of Istra Gourmet
Festival, at the Celebrity stage", said Arlen
Brozić, executive board director of ATP Vegeta Croatia
Open.
"Solidarity Day" is a project conducted by Meliá Hotels
International within their hotels around the world since
2004.
"Travel is an invaluable educational experience for
children, because they attain new friendships, gain new knowledge
and adopt a value system. By organizing Solidarity Day we want to
aid people with special needs as well as teach other children the
importance of solidarity and respect for the natural environment",
said Luis Ramos, regional director of Meliá Hotels
International.
"Projects like these are of great importance for Umag, not only
for gathering donations but also as a long term investment into the
future. Children are our future so raising awareness among children
about the importance of solidarity represents a permanent benefit
for the entire community", said Umag's Mayor Vili
Bassanese.
Handball coach Lino Červar and ex Croatian table
tennis national team member Sandra Paović attended
the Solidarity Day presentation. After a serious injury and rehab,
Sandra Paović dedicated her time to children animation project at
school and preschool age.
The project was supported by our famous table tennis national team
member Sandra Paović as well as the most renowned Croatian coach,
ex handball national team selector Lino Červar.
