For the second year in a row, Istria Gourmet
program of Vegeta Croatia Open in Umag will be hosting
wine tastings known as "Hidden charms of Istrian wines". Tasting
themes have been dedicated toward discovery and valorization of
uniqueness that the Istrian sorts posses. The tastings are
organized in collaboration with the Croatian sommelier club, and is
hosted by Sandi Paris, one of the most valued Croatian sommeliers,
and will take place at the Taste Istria zone.
Based on the blind testing principle each night starting at 9PM
three wines will be tested, while the daily themes are tied to the
specificity of authentic Istrian sorts. On the last day of the
tournament, depending on the participant's votes, Croatian
president dr.sc. Ivo Josipović will award the wine maker whose wine
won the most points, thus making it the ATP wine. The honor of
receiving the award for his wine from the hands of the President
went to Moreno Coronica last year, for his Gran teran from 2008.
Admission to all tastings is free for all visitors if they announce
themselves each day until 8PM.
"This manifestation is organized with the goal presenting the
charms of Istrian wines to the guests of the ATP tournament. Being
aware of the importance of the quality attained by Istrian wines,
we would like to present them to the guests of our tournament,"
said Arlen Brozić, director of the executive board
of Vegeta Croatia Open.
While announcing the tastings, president of the Croatian sommelier
club Franko Lukež stated that all eight days of
wine tastings will serve to demonstrate the specificity but also
the differences of Istrian climates and authentic sorts.
Ivica Matošević thanked the organizers for the
promotion of Istrian wines in the name of Vinistra. "Us wine makers
will do everything within our power to do the best job possible in
the vineyard and the wine cellar, however we can't achieve the
desired international success on our own. For something like that,
we need help, and the support given to us by Vegeta Croatia Open is
invaluable to us in terms of international presence and
visibility", said Matošević.
Lately, the Istrian wine scene has been enriched by excellent
champagnes. In light of that, the tastings host Sandi Paris
introduced a trend of its own at the introductory day of Hidden
charms of Istrian wines - along with the renown champagnes
Peršurić, new champagnes from the wine makers Kabola, Veralda and
Franco Arman.
