This year’s fourth Hidden Charms of the Istrian Wines wine tasting event featured sauvignon blancs made by Pilato Winery from Lašići near Vižinada, Valenta Winery from Kaldir, and Novacco Winery from Fernetići, not far from Brtonigla.
As always, the tasting and scoring was carried out in line with the adapted professional scoring method, in a pleasant atmosphere, and with the discrete help from the sommelier Emil Perdec. He used the occasion to tell the visitors something about the origins and characteristics of this particular variety. “This grape variety originates from the Bordeaux region but produces perhaps the best results in the faraway New Zealand. It is also doing quite well here in Istria,” Perdec concluded.
After scoring the wines’ appearance, aroma and taste, the visitors ended up giving Novacco’s excellent 2018 sauvignon blanc the highest score. This wine thus became the fourth finalist in the race for the ATP Wine of the Year title. This evening, at 9 PM at the Taste Istria Zone, the visitors will select this year’s tournament’s best sparkling wine.
