The biggest and the richest Istrian Wine Run so far

The third edition of the Istrian Wine Run was presented today at the 27th Konzum Croatia Open Umag tournament. It is a unique running event that will on September 4 in Umag gather a large number of cheerful and masked runners from around the world, wanting nothing but good wines and top-quality entertainment. Each year, this unique race attracts a growing number of participants and is open to everyone, regardless of their fitness. The runners have three different categories at their disposal, marathon, half marathon and relay (3x7km), as well as a special press relay for the media representatives. This year's novelty is the children's race, which will take place a day earlier, on Saturday, September 3.

"Children aged 3-14 will be able to participate in a children's race, in three different age categories and completely free of charge. The youngsters will have to complete an 800-meter track and the role of wine will be replaced by juices," race organizer and chairman of the Trickeri Sports Association, Senad Hodžić, explained.

Istria's well-known winemaker Ivica Matošević, himself a passionate runner, got the idea about the wine marathon after completing the legendary French Marathon du Médoc.

"As the most developed wine region in this part of Europe, with its idyllic landscapes, rich culture and welcoming people, Istria has all the preconditions to develop an innovative enological and gastronomic tourism. And this race has fit perfectly into this story," Matošević said.

Istrian Wine Run has been supported by the Umag-based Istraturist since its very beginnings.

"For years now Umag has been synonymous with sports tourism and this innovative race has fit perfectly into our vision of the tourist offer's future development. As such, the race is pointing us in the direction we should be taking if we want to attract new generations of guests and provide the loyal ones with additional events," Istraturist director Ronald Korotaj said.

Marathon winners will go home with their weight in wine, while the members of the best press team will get an attractive weekend for two in one of Istraturist's hotels.
