A third of the runners who have already applied for the race are foreigners from countries such as the United States, Israel, Taiwan, and Japan. They will be competing in three different categories: marathon, half marathon and relay race, and the winners will win their weight in top-quality wine. Apart from being the only race in Croatia, during which the competitors run and drink wine, the Istrian Wine Run is also one of the few races that had a couple marriing each other after the race.
"Last year, a couple from Rijeka asked us if they could get married at the Istrian Wine Run and we agreed. Around 40 members of their wedding party ran the race together with the couple, while the remaining 100 waited for them at the finish line, with the wedding cake. The atmosphere was fantastic and, naturally, the newlyweds will be joining us this year as well", race organizer Senad Hodžić said.
