“I would like to thank everyone who voted for this wine. I am really excited about receiving this award. I am especially pleased that the winery has been rewarded for a wine that I personally discovered, and that’s this teran rosé. This is truly an excellent promotion of indigenous wines,” said Visintin, who already has one ATP of the Year Award – he won it back in 2013 for his 2012 rosé.
At the end of the ceremony, the head of state toasted with the man at the helm of these wine tasting events, sommelier Emil Perdec, chairman of the Croatian Sommelier Club Franko Lukež, and, of course, the winner of this year’s Hidden Charms of the Istrian Wines competition.
This tournament is yet another indicator that sports in general attract guests and that tourists nowadays aren’t satisfied with just the sun and the sea. That is why I am extremely pleased that the number of guests and overnight stays are going up here in Umag as well, partly even because of this tournament,” said President Grabar Kitarović, adding that Umag was a stunningly beautiful tourist destination.
Hidden Charms of the Istrian Wines is a worthy event that has been taking place as part of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open in Umag for eight years now, featuring select local wines. This year, every day from Monday until Saturday, the wine tasting events showcased three wineries, and the contenders for the title, apart from Veralda’s sparkling wine, included Kozlović’s aged malvasia, fresh malvasia by Tomaz, Kappi aged teran by Cattunar, merlot by Kabola and Novacco’s sauvignon blanc. ,” said Visintin, who already has one ATP of the Year Award – he won it back in 2013 for his 2012 rosé.
