The 28th edition of Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag continued with the traditional wine tastings titled Skrivene čari istarskih vina (Hidden Charms of the Istrian Wines). The first evening featured fresh malvasias, with Franković, Coronica and Cuj wineries showcasing theirs. Apart from top-quality malvasias, the guests enjoyed the secrets of the sommelier trade, which this year were revealed to them by the first-class sommelier Emil Perdec.
How to recognize a wine and what to look for in its color, smell and taste as far as wine varieties are concerned are just some of the things the guests participated in at this year’s first wine tasting event. In the end, the guests, who had not known which wines they were tasting until the very end, rated all three of the featured wines. Fresh malvasia Franković got the highest number of points, thus entering the final round of the 2017 ATP Wine contest, the winner of which will be announced on Sunday, the last day of the tournament in Umag, following all the wine tasting events. Tomorrow at 9 PM, a tasting of the mature malvasias will take place in the Gourmet Zone.
