The fifth seed and 32nd player in the world, Fabio Fognini from Italy advanced into the next round of 26th Konzum Croatia Open Umag with a victory over the 44th player in the world, Jiry Vesely from the Czech Republic. Fognini won in two sets (6:4, 6:4) after an hour and 32 minutes of play at the ATP stadium in Umag. He will face the winner of the match between Damir Džumhur (BiH) and Lukaš Rosol (Czech Republic) in the second round. 

Before Fognini, the Slovenian national with a British passport Aljaž Bedene secured the second round with a victory over the Croatian tennis player Mate Delić also in two sets (6:4, 6:3) in a match which lasted an hour and 15 minutes. In the second round Bedene will face the winner of the derby between Borna Ćorić and Marcel Granollers, which will be played tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the ATP stadium.

After the end of the qualifications, we will have the opportunity to see two more Italians, an Austrian and Laslo Đere, who beat Roberto Macora from Italy in two sets (7:5, 6:3). Both Italian-Uruguayan duels were won by Italians: Matteo Trevisan beat Facundo Bagnis in three sets (7:6, 1:6, 6:1) and Thomas Fabbiano had an easier time beating Maximo Gonzales in two sets (6:3, 6:2). In the Austrian duel to enter the main tournament Bastian Trinker was better than Gerald Melzer with 7:6, 6,2.
