This year, Croatian tennis will be represented by the best
tennis players at the 23rd ATP Vegeta Croatia Open in Umag from
July 5 to July 15. Apart from last year's finalist Marin
Cilic, Ivo Karlovic and Ivan Dodig confirmed their participation at
the Umag tournament as well.
Ivo Karlovic is coming back to the strongest Croatian tennis
tournament after four years. "The giant from Salata" has not had
luck in Umag by now, and he hopes that this year he will make up
for everything that he missed.
"Playing in Umag is always a special pleasure for Croatian
tennis players. Domestic audience, domestic atmosphere, top-class
tournament. I believe I will live up to the expectations of the
spectators, as well as my own. It is time for a great result in
Umag," Karlovic said.
Ivan Dodig played the last few tournaments on the clay courts and
he showed that he is getting back in shape, which might enable him
to return to the club of the best 50 tennis players in the world. A
good result in Umag would be the best step in that direction.
"I always carry nice memories from Umag, the organizers try to
bring the best Croatian players and I appreciate that. Playing in
Umag in front of the domestic audience is a great motivation for
me, I always give 100 percent and hope that I will make my fans
happy this year. With a little sports luck, I believe I could
achieve a lot better result in Umag than last year,"
Dodig said.
Apart from the three Croatian tennis players, last year's winner
Alexandr Dolgopolov from Ukraine, who is the 20st
player in the world at the moment, has confirmed his participation
in the 23rd ATP Vegeta Croatia Open. In the period between "two
Wimbledon tournaments" and in the period that concurs with another
three tournaments, Umag managed to attract great names of the world
tennis, concerts head of the tournament Vanja Bozickovic.
"These are players who are at the very top of the world
tennis. Their comeback confirms the strength and reputation of Umag
in the tennis world. I am sure that this year's tournament will
provide top-class experience both to tennis players as well as all
visitors of the ATP Vegeta Croatia Open,"
Bozickovic said.
