Marin Čilić is the first player to qualify for the
quarterfinals of 25. Vegeta Croatia Open, where he plays
as the third seed. After only an hour and 7 minutes, Čilić defeated
Igor Sijsling from Netherlands 7:5, 6:3. The match could have been
even shorter, had Čilić seized the opportunity to win the set at
5:3 with his serve. However, Sijsling managed to take his serve,
but Čilić returned the favor at 5:5. The second set ended without
many surprises and ended in Čilić's victory. It was their fourth
match thus far and each of them ended in Čilić's favor. "It was a
bit of a strange match, but I think I served really well and it
gave me two, three points per game", said Čilić after the
match.
In the quarterfinals he will face the Czech Lukas Rosol, who
chases each ball and always takes risks. They have played three
times thus far, never on clay, and Rosol lost each time. "I
have to let him make some more mistakes and concentrate on my
serve", is Čilić's tactic for the quarterfinals.
The second couple of quarterfinalists in the lower part of
the draw are Spaniards Tommy Robredo and Pablo Carreno Busta.
