2011. - winner: ALEXANDR DOLGOPOLOV

Dolgopolov_2011The final match of the Umag tournament 2011 could not have brought a more interesting and for the organizer more ideal match. On one side, there was our Marin Čilić, while on the other side of the net, a World tennis upcoming star Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov. After a great tennis match in front of a full stadium in Umag, the Ukrainian tennis player won his first title in three sets 6:4 3:6 6:3.

A particularly interesting turn of events was certainly the participation of Marin Čilić (paired with Lovro Zovko) in the double finals (losing to a combination Bolelli / Fognini). For the first time, the audience in Umag in 2011, was able to enjoy watching our player in both finals.

2010. - winner: JUAN CARLOS FERRERO

Pobjednik2010After losing to Nikolay Davidenko in the 2009 finals, Juan Carlos Ferrero succeeded in winning the tournament in Umag in his fourth attempt. In the finals Ferrero beat the Italian tennis player Potito Starace 6:4, 6:4.

Four Croatian players entered the tournament: three of them with an invitation from the tournament organizer ( Antonio Veić, Ivan Dodig and Franko Škugor), and Ivan Ljubičić that entered the tournament directly. Ivan Ljubičić made it to the eight finals to be eliminated by the finalist Potito Starace with 6:4, 7:6.

2009th - winner: NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO

2009.jpgFor the second year in a row, the 1st seed won the tournament. After Fernando Verdasco in 2008th, this year Nikolay Davydenko succeeded in that. Considering the number of the games this was the shortest finals in the tournament's history (excluding Djokovic's submission match to Wawrinka in the finals 2006.) - Davydenko beat Spanish player Juan Carlos Ferrero with 6-3, 6-0.

Davydenko didn't lost even one set through the whole tournament, and how dominant he was semi-finals won describes - he won against Melzer with a convincing 6-1, 6-1. From our players in the main tournament played Ivan Ljubicic (in the quarterfinals he was beaten by Melzer) and Ivan Dodig (got an invitation), but in first round he lost easily against Uruguayan Cuevas.

2008th - winner: FERNANDO VERDASCO

2008.jpgIn one of the longest and the most exciting finals in tournament's history, first seed Verdasco won in the tie-break third set against Russian Andreev. Croatians only participated: Karlovic, Belic and Veic lost in the first performance (Veic lost against Frenchman Montcourt who recently passed away), Ljubicic gave match to Karanusic in the second round, Karanusic then lost against Gonzales.

2007th - winner: CARLOS MOYA

2007.jpgFifth victory for Carlos Moya. In the finals he won Romanian Pavel. The first seed player Novak Djokovic in the 1st round was defeated by compatriot Troicki. Aa well 2nd seed player Davidenko lost (by then still relatively unknown Frenchman Simon), and the same happened to 3rd seed player Croatian Ljubicic. Formula 1 owner Bernie Ecclestone and his wife Slavica supported the players.

2006th - winner: STANISLAS WAWRINKA

2006.jpg"Studena" became the title sponsor of the Umag tournament which is now named "Studena Croatia Open Umag". The only final match in Umag that is not completed: because of exhaustion Djokovic at 6:6 in the first set gave a duel to Swiss Wawrinka, who with a lot of trouble in the second round beat Cilic. Invitation to the tournament, director Rasbereger that year presented to a future star Argentinean Del Porto.

2005th - winner: GUILLERMO CORIA

2005.jpgWild card, beside great Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten, was given to Croatians Sasa Tuksar and 17-year old Marin Cilic. They lost in the first round, as opposed to Novak Djokovic who, for the first time in Umag, passed the first obstacle to him. In the second round he was stopped by Juan Carlos Ferrero.

2004th - winner: GUILERMO CANAS

2004.jpgCarlos Moya became an honorary citizen of the town of Umag and award of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic - 'Order of Danica with the figure of Franjo Bucar', for a ten-year appearance in the tournament. Novak Djokovic passed the qualification, but in the first round was eliminated by Volandri.

2003th - winner: CARLOS MOYA

2003.jpgFourth victory for Carlos Moya. In the finals in three sets he surpassed the Italian player Volandri. Proceeded by wonderful tennis in the semi-finals: Moya - Nadal. There were six Croatian players in the main draw: the 1st round Krajan, Karanusic and Zovko lost, in the second round the other three - Karlovic, Tuksar and Radic.

2002th - winner: CARLOS MOYA

2002.jpgThird victory for Carlos Moya. In the finals he was better than compatriot Ferrer. It is interesting that Ferrer entered the tournament through qualification, and immediately in the first round eliminated the first seed player Nalbandian. Croatian Zeljko Krajan reached the semi-finals after the quarter-finals where he unexpectedly defeated Ivan Ljubicic.

2001th - winner: CARLOS MOYA

2001.jpgSecond victory for Carlos Moya in Umag. In the finals he defeated the French player Golmardo. In the semi-finals he won Argentinean David Nalbandian. At the final match three Presidents attended, Slovenian, Kazakhstani and Croatian.

2000th - winner: MARCELO RIOS

2000.jpgGreat Chilean Marcello Rios was the winner of the 11th Croatia Open. In the final match he won top seed Argentinean Puerta in three sets. In the main draw there were as many as 11 Spanish players. Ivan Ljubicic drop again in the second round - with 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 Puerta, later on finalist, defeated him.

1999th - winner: MAGNUS NORMAN

1999.jpgThomas Muster became an honorary citizen of the town of Umag. World record in champagne glasses stacking. Last year Magnus Norman stuck in the finals, but this year he went to the end. On the way to the title victory, Swede won Canas, Moya and Ljubičić. Quite a surprise was the entry of the American Jeff Tarang to the finals.

1998th - winner: BOGDAN ULIHRACH

That year the awards were handed by representatives of the Croatian football team who were third place winners of the football World Cup in France, selector Ciro Blazevica and Davor Suker. 1995th - winner: THOMAS MUSTER

1995.jpgThe third title for Thomas Muster. The most dramatic finales between Thomas Muster and Carlos Costa. Costa led 6-3, 5-2, 40-15 and served... Goran Ivanisevic and Zvonimir Boban played a friendly match. Semi-final beauty contest Miss Croatia for Miss World. Competition in the fast changing wheels on the Formula 1 car.

1994th - winner: ALBERTO BERASATEGUI

1994.jpgAfter last year's defeat in the finales against Muster, Alberto Berasategui raised the winning trophy. In the finals he was better than Slovak Kucera 6:2, 6:4. First appearance in Umag of great Spanish player Emilio Sanchez.
