The jubilee 25th edition of Croatia Open has been marked by a plethora of turning points, surprises and uncertain matches. The most memorable was, of course, the tournament winner Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay, who started off as a qualifier and fought his way all the way to the final where he defeated the title defender Tommy Robredo. That is his second tournament title in a row and 13th victory in a row, which he never managed to achieve in his long career. It is important to mention that Cuevas is only the second qualifier in the history of the tournament who managed to make it to the final and win.
The local fans were surely thrilled by the excellent matches played by the young Borna Ćorić, who proved to be a very tough opponent for Fabio Fognini in the quarterfinals, thus showing his vast talent and mental fortitude rarely seen in young players. Marin Čilić has played several impressive matches, thus showing that he is well on the way back to the world's Top 10. He reached the semifinal and confronted Tommy Robredo in a match that was labeled a "final before the final".

Spain's Tommy Robredo, Italy's Fabio Fognini and France's Gael Mofils marked the 24th edition of the tournament. Fognini arrived in Umag in top form, after winning his first ever two tournaments. On his way to the finals he even beat Monfils in an extremely exciting and interesting match. Nonetheless, his winning streak of 13 straight matches was snapped rather convincingly by Robredo, who defeated him in straight sets 6:0, 6:3 after a nearly perfect final match at the packed Umag Stadium. Following a last-minute cancellation by the Croatian title defender Marin Čilić, the country's tennis was represented by Antonio Veić and Joško Topić as well as juniors Mate Pavić and Borna Ćorić, the former putting up quite a fight to Monfils in the first round.

The 2012 edition of the tournament was also marked by the change of the title sponsor. Studena relinquished its position to Vegeta /23rd ATP Vegeta Croatia Open Umag/. And after over 20 years of waiting, along with the change of name, Umag once again has a Croatian winner. After Goran Prpić, who won the first year this tournament was held, it was not until this year that the best Croatian tennis player Marin Čilić managed to do the same.
At the crowded stadium in Stella Maris, he won a really great match against Marcel Granollers, scoring 6:4, 6:2, putting an end to a wonderful week of tennis, as well as of all other Umag magic.

The final match of the Umag tournament 2011 could not have brought a more interesting and for the organizer more ideal match. On one side, there was our Marin Čilić, while on the other side of the net, a World tennis upcoming star Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov. After a great tennis match in front of a full stadium in Umag, the Ukrainian tennis player won his first title in three sets 6:4 3:6 6:3. A particularly interesting turn of events was certainly the participation of Marin Čilić (paired with Lovro Zovko) in the double finals (losing to a combination Bolelli / Fognini). For the first time, the audience in Umag in 2011, was able to enjoy watching our player in both finals.

For the second year in a row, the 1st seed won the tournament. After Fernando Verdasco in 2008th, this year Nikolay Davydenko succeeded in that. Considering the number of the games this was the shortest finals in the tournament's history (excluding Djokovic's submission match to Wawrinka in the finals 2006.) - Davydenko beat Spanish player Juan Carlos Ferrero with 6-3, 6-0. Davydenko didn't lost even one set through the whole tournament, and how dominant he was semi-finals won describes - he won against Melzer with a convincing 6-1, 6-1. From our players in the main tournament played Ivan Ljubicic (in the quarterfinals he was beaten by Melzer) and Ivan Dodig (got an invitation), but in first round he lost easily against Uruguayan Cuevas.
